Sir,
With reference to Mr. Amery's despatch No. 339
of 17th October, 1928, and Sir William Peel's telegram
No.15 of 16th January, 1935, I have the honour to inform
you that it is now requested that one Police Probationer
may, with your approval, be appointed. Provision has been
made in the Estimates for 1936. The officer selected for
appointment should arrive in Hong Kong as early as possible
in 1936.
2. It is much regretted that, owing to an unfortunate
oversight, this need for recruitment was overlooked at the
time of Sir William Peel's telegram referred to, and it is
hoped that, in spite of the delay in notifying the requirement,
it may still be possible to make the appointment.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient, humble servant,
Mr. Smith.
Officer Administering the Government.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
MALCOLM MACDONALD, M.P.,
